Breaking Barriers Toward Effective Coaching

Course Description:

This Intermediate level course was developed to teach speech-language pathologists and teachers of the deaf methods of engaging families using the coaching model. Topics included: understanding the components of effective coaching, how to conduct coaching sessions live and remotely, how to increase the caregiver’s capacity to develop their child’s listening and language skills and how to address difficulties when working with families.

Learning Outcomes:

Participants will be able to:

  • Describe the foundation and components of effective coaching
  • Identify methods and strategies of conducting coaching sessions both live and virtually
  • Recognize barriers when working with families
  • Develop strategies to work through difficulties in caregiver coaching

Synchronous Workshop: Our live, virtual workshops are hosted by our CID professionals, purchased on an individual basis and are available on specific dates.

  • The Breaking Barriers synchronous CID workshop includes:
    • 5.5 hours of live training
    • Continuing Education Unit options available
    • Certificates of completion
    • Recorded access to the workshop for two weeks
    • $150 per person

Synchronous Workshops for Groups: Our live, virtual workshop is held specifically for your group on a date which works for you. This option is suited for those in charge of professional development for an organization or district who are seeking to train their group of staff together, and have the time built into your calendar.
  • The Breaking Barriers synchronous workshop for groups includes:
    • 5.5 hours presentation time
    • Continuing Education Unit options available
    • Certificates of completion
    • $1,000 per workshop (maximum of 25 attendees)
